Which is beyond me. I mean when I was young, I would feel ashamed if I need to buy sanitary products, especially if there was a man at the counter. And I am certainly not the only one. What is so wrong with a normal biological function that most women have? There shouldn’t be any stigma around it at all. And while it is improving there are still many people who somehow find it disgusting.
That is probably why this woman decided to use that feeling of ‘disgust’ into something that grabs the attention. She thought of an ingenious idea to write powerful messages on pads and post them all over her city to poles, boards, and other things. These are meant to feel out of place and start a conversation because we sorely lack in people having an honest discussion about things that need to change. Rather than that, many of us just fall into the old habits of putting the blame on everyone else and telling them to change when in fact we all need to make changes.
How many men commit r*pe or s*xual hara**ment? Answer: LOTS. And a great deal of it is perpetrated on family members, co-workers, or friends. How many get away with it? MOST. Why? Because “boys will be boys”. Because the power is intoxicating. Because they can. Because women are expected to be meek and reviled when they are not. Now. How many men are very uncomfortable going to the store to pick up period supplies? Less than in previous years, but still a high majority.
You do the math, without claiming you are the exception that proves the rule. And yes, I know how unscientific this is, but I also know a great many people, from all walks of life, and across 59 years of life, from one side of this country to the other. -Athena
Equality? Men don’t plaster sanitary towels all over cities. ‘If only men were as disgusted with r*pe…’ I know of no man who ISN’T disgusted by it; the woman posting these seems to have forgotten that men can be r*ped, too. As for being disgusted by periods…it’s a natural thing, but I don’t particularly want to see anyone’s blood regardless of where it came from. -Colin
