Artist Explains Consent Perfectly Through Their 7 Well-Done Comics

Consent should be common knowledge by now.

And you would think that is how it is now. However, things are far from perfect even today. Many people just don’t understand the meaning of consent. I mean just because you are in a relationship with someone doesn’t mean you deserve s*x whenever you want and that you can force it on them. And then there is the dumb belief that a woman shouldn’t wear revealing clothes, or she is basically ‘asking for it’.

That is not true, our clothes should never be related to that sort of thing. And yet here we are. That is probably why an amazing artist by the name Alli Kirkham decided to draw seven comics that perfectly encapsulate how ridiculous these comments really are. In mean, they make no sense when you put it like them. So scroll on below and take a look for yourself.

#1 I mean you promised beforehand and that makes it okay to force you, right?

#2 Giving consent for something once doesn’t mean you have it for a lifetime.

The one of the car kind of happened to me. I told my landlady’s husband he could enter the house to see a certain problem on Monday, and that he could use his keys if I wasn’t home. He entered without telling me on Wednesday. When I said I was annoyed that he entered without telling me, he said “but you said I could enter the house using my keys”… YES, ON THAT MONDAY! NOT WHENEVER YOU WANT, WITHOUT EVEN TELLING ME!

That Wednesday, for a coincidence I came home late. If I didn’t come home late, I would have been having a shower, and he would have entered while I was having the shower. How embarrassing would have been?! Doesn’t he understand that he can’t just enter like that someone else’s private space? -Alice

#3 You can’t give consent to something when you are asleep even if you like it usually.

Wow! All I can say: Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant way to show the absurdities around common understanding of consent around s*xuality.
