Whatever gender they may identify as people are not just their clothes. This may seem like common sense but apparently, tabloids don’t operate under basic human decency as they love to write about how a Kardashian is wearing a figure-hugging dress while going out for a stroll. I don’t think anyone really cares what sort of t-shirt a celebrity is wearing while grocery shopping but at the end of the day, tabloids publish what sells in the real life.
And if we as consumers didn’t read these sorts of magazines in spades, they would have to change their tactics. It has become so wide-spread that we think objectification of women is normal. I am not saying men don’t get objectified in the media as well, but it is done to a lesser extent than what female celebrities go through. And you can see that for yourself when one Twitter account flipped the script and put the men in the limelight.

Whenever you point this out, people will inevitably roll their eyes and say it’s ‘PC culture gone mad,’ or we are making a fuss over nothing. That’s because objectifying women in this way has become so normalized that sometimes people hardly notice it’s happening.
It ends up being a very real problem. If we see the fragmentation and evaluation of women’s bodies as ‘normal,’ we could assume that a woman walking down the street is somehow displaying their body for others’ benefit. –Jai Mackenzie
