AITA for telling my brother to stop complaining about child support since he chose to have s*x with a woman he barely knew?

Few topics create arguments faster than pregnancy, child support, and personal responsibility, especially when emotions, resentment, and regret are all tangled together. What started as a casual friends-with-benefits arrangement between my brother and a woman he barely knew eventually turned into a permanent co-parenting situation after she became pregnant and chose to keep the baby. My brother never wanted to become a father, and from the moment the pregnancy was confirmed, he made it clear that he hoped she would get an ab*rtion.

She refused, the child was born, a DNA test confirmed paternity, and now they share custody while he pays child support every month. Ever since then, he has constantly complained about how unfair the system is to men and how he had no choice in the situation. During a recent dinner, after listening to the same rant for what felt like the hundredth time, I finally snapped and told him something nobody else apparently wanted to say directly: he knowingly chose to have s*x, fully aware that pregnancy was always a possibility. That honesty did not go over well at all.

The Plot Twist Nobody Expected — The Person Defending S*xual Responsibility Was Actually Another Man

Reddit always has opinions—let’s see their judgment.

Looking back on the argument, I still don’t think I was wrong for saying what I did, even if my brother hated hearing it. I understand that becoming a parent in circumstances you didn’t want can feel overwhelming, frustrating, and unfair, especially when another person ultimately has the final say regarding pregnancy. But at the same time, none of this happened in a vacuum. He willingly participated in a situation where pregnancy was always a known risk, and acting shocked afterward doesn’t suddenly erase responsibility.

What surprised me even more than his reaction, though, was the flood of angry messages I received afterward from strangers online who assumed I must be a woman simply because I believe men should also be accountable for the consequences of s*x. Apparently, basic responsibility has somehow become controversial. The entire situation revealed something much bigger than just one family argument; a lot of people are comfortable enjoying freedom and choice right up until consequences appear. And once those consequences arrive, accountability suddenly becomes everyone else’s fault instead of their own decisions.
