AITA for wanting my boyfriend to come straight home after work (on some days) to help me destress after taking care of our 4 month old son all day?

When I first wrote about wanting just a few evenings of support from my boyfriend, I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and second-guessing myself. I truly believed I might be asking for too much, one or two nights a week, when he would come straight home after work so that I could shower, eat, or sit in silence for an hour. As a first-time mom to a four-month-old who refuses the bottle, my world had shrunk to feeding schedules, broken sleep, and constant physical attachment.

Meanwhile, he had saunas, drinks, and uninterrupted downtime. When I finally left to stay at my mom’s for a week, it wasn’t meant to be dramatic; it was meant to give both of us space. But what happened during that week gave me the clarity I had been too tired to see before.

Curious to hear the verdict from Reddit on this one.

Ending the relationship wasn’t one impulsive decision made out of anger; it was the result of accumulated exhaustion, dismissal, and red flags I had been trying to ignore. His silence during that week spoke louder than any argument ever could. The way he minimized fatherhood, postponed bonding, and implied I was inadequate for needing help confirmed that we were not partners; we were coexisting under one roof.

Walking away wasn’t easy, and I won’t pretend there isn’t sadness in knowing my son won’t grow up with both parents together every day. But I also know that staying would have meant modeling imbalance, resentment, and emotional neglect. I chose peace. I chose self-respect. And most importantly, I chose to show my son that love is not about convenience, it’s about presence, effort, and shared responsibility.

How did this make you feel?
