AITA for “manipulating” my ex by reminding him the woman he cheated with (and says he hates) is pregnant with his child?

Breakups are rarely clean or simple, especially when betrayal is involved. When a relationship ends because of cheating, the emotional fallout can linger long after the initial confrontation. In my case, things became even more complicated when new information surfaced after the breakup, information that made it impossible to simply move on and pretend the relationship had ended neatly.

My ex and I had already gone through the painful process of admitting what happened and calling things off after I discovered he had been sleeping with his ex-girlfriend behind my back. I was trying to process the betrayal and start distancing myself from the situation when I learned that the woman he had cheated with was pregnant. To make things even messier, he already knew about the pregnancy when he decided to approach me again, asking for another chance and trying to convince me that he wanted to fix what we had. What followed was an awkward and tense conversation where I tried to remain calm and realistic, only to be accused of manipulation simply for acknowledging the very situation he created.

Let’s hear the community’s take on this wild story.

Looking back at the conversation, I still struggle to understand how calmly stating the reality of the situation could be considered manipulation. I wasn’t trying to shame him or throw insults at him; if anything, I was trying to approach the conversation in the most level-headed way possible, given everything that had happened. The truth is that once a child becomes part of the picture, the circumstances change in a major and unavoidable way.

Ignoring that fact doesn’t make it disappear, and pretending the situation isn’t complicated would only set everyone up for more pain later. While I still feel empathy for the innocent child who will grow up in the middle of this complicated dynamic, I don’t feel responsible for protecting my ex from the consequences of the choices he willingly made. If acknowledging reality makes me the villain in his story, then so be it. At the end of the day, I would rather be honest and protect my own peace than pretend everything can go back to the way it was before the betrayal happened.
