AITA for Refusing to Share My Juice Even Though It Made My Family Mad?

What started as a peaceful family hike quickly spiraled into a full-blown juice war — complete with tears, accusations, and me questioning whether I’m some sort of cold-hearted villain. I’m diabetic, so I always carry one sugary drink with me in case my blood sugar crashes. Yesterday, that drink just happened to be apple juice, and my 7-year-old autistic niece decided she had to have it. What happened next turned a ten-minute walk into one of the most awkward family moments I’ve ever experienced.

My Perspective

Let’s see what other redditors have to say about it!!

In the end, I didn’t give her the juice. My blood sugar stayed fine, but my family’s opinion of me? Not so much. My brother and SIL think I’m selfish for not “understanding” my niece’s sensory meltdown, but I still feel like I had to protect my own medical needs. Could I have just handed it over to avoid the drama? Maybe. But at what risk to myself? Now I’m stuck wondering — did I do the right thing by putting my health first, or was I just being stubborn over a bottle of juice?
