AITA for Reminding My Sister She Was Deemed Unfit to Adopt?

2 min 2,280 0

Some people will never understand how deeply infertility cuts — how it shapes your dreams, your relationships, and even your sense of identity. My sister Mia has lived with that pain for years. I’ve watched her struggle, cry, and have her heart broken again and again by failed treatments and rejected adoption applications. I never imagined I’d be the one to hurt her… or that she’d put me in a position where I’d have to choose between protecting my children and protecting her feelings. But when she asked me to give her one of my unborn twins, I knew there was no world where my answer could be yes.

Let’s see what other Redditors have to say about this story.

I understand my sister’s grief. I truly do. But my babies — both of them — are mine to love and raise, not gifts to hand over because someone else is hurting. Maybe my words were harsh. Maybe reminding her why she could never adopt was the cruelest thing I’ve ever said. But the request itself was so far beyond what I could give that there was no gentle way to say no. I will not apologize for protecting my children before they’re even born. If that makes me the villain in her story, then I’ll gladly play that role.
